What to Expect:

Oral cancer has traditionally been associated with older adults and well-known risk factors like tobacco and alcohol use. However, recent epidemiological shifts reveal an increasing incidence in younger, otherwise healthy individuals. This lecture will explore the evolving landscape of oral cancer, examining changes in risk factors, genetic predisposition, and environmental influences.

Educational Objectives:

At the conclusion of this live-stream, participants will be able to:

  • Recognize emerging trends in oral cancer incidence. 
  • Evaluate evolving risk factors beyond traditional etiologies.  
  • Enhance early detection through updated screening strategies.

Dr. Hagen Klieb is a certified oral medicine and oral pathology specialist and clinician at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, where he holds cross appointments to the departments of dentistry and anatomic pathology.  He also leads the oral pathology biopsy service at LifeLabs.  Dr. Klieb is active in post-graduate dental and medical education and his research interests pertain to mechanisms of orofacial pain and novel therapies for oral autoimmune disorders.
